    Reggie Perkins joins the Suns

Former Harlem Globetrotter takes over as the Boys Basketball Director

Reggie Perkins the new Boys Basketball Director

Coach Reggie Perkins, is a former member of the Harlem Globetrotters, and currently the new head coach for Kennedy High School. This is Coach Perkins 15th year coaching in high school. Prior to coming to Kennedy he served as the head coach at Washburn High School for 8-years. There he led his team to four conference championships and two MSHSL State Championship games in Class 3A in 2009(Champions) and 2012(Runner-Up). He was voted Coach of the Year by his peers in the Minneapolis City Conference four times.

Prior to becoming a head coach, Coach Perkins was an assistant coach for 6 years, with Apple Valley and Minneapolis North. He coached 9th grade and Junior Varsity respectfully. During his tenure at Minneapolis North he helped them win the 2001 Class 4A State Championship. He is a member of the Minnesota Boys Coaches Association and serves on the MBCA Executive Board. He was recently voted the new President of the MBCA Executive Board for 2012-2012, the first African-American to hold the position.

He played collegiate basketball and earned his undergraduate degree in Education and Masters in Athletic Administration at St. Cloud State University. As a collegiate player, Coach Perkins helped SCSU win three consecutive North Central Conference Championships, and earn a #1 national ranking for NCAA Division II. He was named the NCC MVP twice, and was an All-American. In 2006, he was inducted into the SCSU Athletic Hall of Fame and still holds the record, as the all time leader in steals.  He currently works as a Career & College Center Coordinator for Achieve Minneapolis, at Washburn High School.  Coach Perkins was the founder of the Mpls Select and will now be merging with the MN Suns.

Why Play For The Minnesota Suns!

Experience is part of the process.  With this program you can expect that your coaching and support staff will help guide you through the recruiting process to help you get a good fit.

Development is an important piece that often gets overlooked in place of winning.  Not here, individual time is given to help each athlete improve something that they can take back with them to their winter team.

Fun is an essential element.  Making fun a part of the mix makes it easier for the athlete and parents to want to get better and increase the desire to go to the next level.

Work is absolutely necessary.  With it you can overcome many things that may stand in your way.
