2012 Coaching Staff

Girls coaches:

James Fassett / Brindley McGowan will be coaching an 11th grade team.  James currently is the head coach of Anoka High School.  Prior to that he assistant women's basketball coach at Anoka Ramsey Community College for three years.  James has also severed as the Head Coach at MCTC for three years as well as assistant coaching positions at the high school level in both boys and girls programs.  James will be starting his 6th year with the MN Suns.  He has taken our 16U teams to some of the most elite summer tournaments in the midwest and throughout the country.  Over the past five years James has coached several Suns players that have gone on to play at 4 year colleges and universities.  James also stays in close contact with several college coaches assisting players in getting to the next level.

Keith Wilson is going to coach an 11th grade team. Keith will be in his 2nd season coaching with the Suns.  Keith is the asst head coach at Minneapolis Washburn.  Keith is an engineering field as his profession.

Cori Davison / Todd Ciochetto will be a 11th grade coach.  In 2010 her team finished 2nd in the nation at AAU Nationals Division 1 (the top level).  In 2009 her team finished 6th in the nation at AAU Div 1 national tournament!  Cori has won the state title and taken her teams to the finals in almost every tournament.  Cori has a knack for staying steady at the helm.  Cori is in her 19th year of coaching. 

Greg Arbogast / Long will be the head coach of a 10th grade team.  Greg has been coaching girls for 30 years.  He has achieved many many things over that time span which includes helping over 200 kids achieve their dream of playing at the college level.  A true measure of success is attained when his former players are now asking him to coach their own kids the game of basketball. 

Scott Stadem will be the head coach of a 10th grade team.  Scott will begin his 2nd year with our program and has a rich tradition of coaching in his family.  Each of his brothers have won state high school championships as head coaches in South Dakota.  Scott's father has been a head coach for decades as well.  Scott recently earned his masters degree and is a teacher in the Edina School system.

Brindley McGowan / (Asst TBD) will be a 9th grade coach.  Brindley entering his 2nd year with the Suns program has previously coached with Howard Pulley for 14 years.  Brindley played at Lehigh University and also played professionally for Macabi Tel-Aviv.  Word has it that he is the best shooter over the age of 40 in the state of MN.

Chandra Hall will be coaching an 9th grade team.  She will be entering her 3rd year with the Suns.  She currently coaches in the Edina traveling program and has been coaching young men and women since 1997.  She also has four years experience as a referee.  Chandra played college basketball at Augsburg and in high school at St Louis Park.

Dave Hanson will be coaching a 8th grade team.  Dave is entering his 3rd year with the program.  Prior to that Dave has run an AAU organization and also been a part of the Elk River girls high school coaching staff for five years.  This will be Dave’s 11th year coaching AAU basketball and has helped 30 girls achieve their dream of playing collegiate basketball.

Dave Valley will be coaching a 7th grade team.  Dave brings 11 years of coaching experience to the table.  2 years in the Osseo/Maple Grove program and 9 years with the STMA program.  During this time Dave has won a state championship.

Jake Kolden will coach a 7th grade team.  Jake currently is coaching in the Roseville traveling program.  Jake will be entering his 6th year coaching with our program.

Rachael Long will be coaching a 6th grade team in 2012.  Rachael will begin her 2nd year as the head coach of this squad.  Last year her team finished with a tremendous amount of momentum and is VERY excited to begin this next season.  Rachael is a senior at Gustavus Adolphus college and is studying to become a teacher.  Rachael is also an eligible bachelorette:)

Dan Froelich will be coaching a 6th grade team in 2012.  Dan is currently the head coach at Minneapolis Southwest High School and will begin his 2nd year coaching with the Suns.  Dan has been coaching for 30 years at multiple levels of youth, high school and AAU.  He has been recognized by the MN State High School League.  Dan also has been practicing law for 25 years and has been recognized by his peers as a MN Super Lawyer.  Currently, Dan is completing his Masters in Teaching at the University of St Thomas.

John Clarkin will be coaching a 5th grade team in 2012.  This will be John's 8th year of coaching basketball and his first with the Suns.  He has coached in the Andover and Champlin programs.  John currently works in special education in the Champlin Park school system.

Mens coaches 2012 

Cliff Brown
is the 17u/11th grade coach for 2012.  Cliff will be in his 2nd year with the Suns program.  Cliff currently works in the Hopkins school district.

16U/10th grade TBD

Troy Russell and John Grey will be coaching a 15U/9th grade team.  Troy will begin his 3rd season with the Suns and is currently is the girls head coach at Irondale HS.  John currently works at Breck HS.

Joe Krieg will be coaching a 15U/9th grade team.  Joe will be in his 2nd year with the Suns.

Tim Wilson will be coaching a 14U/8th grade team.  Tim will be in his 4th year with the Suns.

13U/7th grade TBD
